Vinyl or composite flooring - which is better
Laminate floors occupy a leading position in the Ukrainian market. But residents of European countries have recently been giving more preference to new generation waterproof flooring. Modern manufacturers are developing both directions, so in stores you can increasingly find not only the usual laminate, but also composite and vinyl floors. But which floor is better: vinyl or composite? Let's try to figure it out.
LVT vinyl floors and their features
LVT or Luxury Vinyl Tile vinyl tiles are a high-quality and environmentally friendly flooring that is ideal for apartments. It has several advantages over classic laminate flooring:
100% water resistant;
resistance to fungi, mold;
good thermal conductivity;
Vinyl is available in two formats: tiles (LVT) and planks (LVP). It is made from quality material, does not deform under the influence of heat or steam.
What is WPC and SPC
It is a new generation composite flooring that has a stable structure. It has several advantages:
complete moisture resistance;
resistance to mechanical damage;
no noise when walking.
There are two types of composite decking on the market - WPC and SPC. The main difference is that WPC flooring is a combination of vinyl with wood flour, while SPC composite flooring is a combination of vinyl with stone or minerals.
Benefits of SPC Laminate
This is a perfect vinyl covering that maintains its linear dimensions even under the influence of moisture and temperature extremes. General characteristics of SPC floors - density 2000 kg / m3, coating thickness - 0.32-0.5 cm, thermal conductivity - from 0.20 to 0.25 W. This flooring has several advantages:
resistance to heavy loads;
the possibility of laying on a heated floor;
uninterrupted installation on an area of up to 500 m2.
SPC laminate is installed on various types of substrates such as old tiles, parquet, linoleum. But the differences in the base should not exceed 0.5 cm per 2 running meters.
Advantages of WPC Decking
WPC tiles have a complex structure, but unlike SPC tiles, they are warmer and softer to the touch. It does not create additional noise when walking, has a long service life, does not rot and deform and maintains dimensional stability.
WPC flooring does not require additional painting, sanding and is easy to maintain. Only environmentally friendly materials (plastic granules or wood fibers) are used for the production of the coating.
What is Rigid Vinyl
This is a new generation flooring that combines the best qualities of SPC and WPC floors, as well as eliminates their disadvantages. It has several undeniable advantages:
lack of noise when walking;
resistance to different types of damage;
Rigid decking can be installed on all types of substrates without thresholds over an area of up to 400 m2. It can be used even in unheated rooms.
Differences between vinyl and composite floors
Modern types of coatings are in demand, so they can be easily bought in any hardware store in Kiev. But when choosing, it should be borne in mind that there are significant differences between them:
Vinyl coating characteristics:
density - 700-800 kg / m3;
laying - with PVC glue;
base drops - no more than 2-3 mm;
heating - no higher than 28 ° С;
non-threshold styling - no space restrictions.
Composite flooring characteristics:
density - 1000-2000 kg / m3;
laying - locking method;
base drops - no more than 5 mm;
heating - no higher than 40 ° С;
installation without thresholds - up to 650m2.
Both types of coatings are 100% waterproof, with a wide range of colors and textures, and are suitable for domestic and commercial use.
Vinyl or composite flooring: which is better
It is almost impossible to unequivocally answer this question, because each type of coating has its own pros and cons. When choosing, it is necessary to take into account the peculiarities of operation, as well as pay attention to the country of production, brand, availability of a quality certificate.
